'The steam experience' will be the first stage of the redeveloped Shantytown  - the new Shantytown experience (construction not expected to start until mid/late 2008).  It will combine history, science, technology, education and entertainment in an interactive experience where visitors can immerse themselves in the world of the "Serious Blokes' Shed".

Part of the Steam Section involves a unique attraction and education facility - a steam school where apprentices learn the skills to restore, maintain and operate steam heritage machinery, while utilising modern engineering equipment and practices. 

Visitors will be able to watch the engineers at work while learning about steam power and invention, including extraordinary West Coast innovations.  Shantytown believes this will be a world first.
